Martha Thompson

February 15, 1920 - June 12, 2010

Martha Wigley Thompson, 90, an interior designer and community volunteer, died June 12 at Channing House, Palo Alto, her home for the past 13 years.

Born in Riverside, CA, she was a 1941 graduate of  U.C. Berkeley, where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority.  In 1942,  she  married  Harry Francis “Bud” Thompson of San Francisco.  They were together for 34 years until his death in 1976.

Martha was for many years co-owner of Thompson & Eckart, a Menlo Park interior design firm.  As a community volunteer, she was a member of the Woodside-Atherton Auxiliary of Allied Arts and the Valley Auxiliary of Family Service. She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Jarrett(Jim) of Palo Alto, her sons Tom Thompson(Sally) of High Point, NC,  David  Thompson of San Jose, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial tea will be held at Channing House in July for family and friends. Interment at Alta Mesa Cemetery will be private. Memorial donations may be made to Abilities United, 525 E. Charleston Rd., Palo Alto, CA 94306. http://AbilitiesUnited.org
