Esther Loo

March 26, 1912 - March 06, 2010

Esther Loo, 97, lifelong resident of San Francisco, passed away in her sleep on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at her home in American Canyon.  Son, Kenneth and daughter-in-law Thelma by her side.

Esther met the love of her life, Paul, at George Bros. & Co.  After a whirlwind courtship, Esther and Paul were married in December 1941, beginning another chapter in her life.  In it she met Paul’s daughters Eugenia (Norman) Wong, Isabelle (Warren) Chan and Laura (Paul) Tsai with whom she developed lifelong relationships of love and respect. 

In 1953 after Paul’s death, Esther re-entered the work force at George Bros., then Chevron (California Chemical Company) from which she retired in 1977.  After “retirement” Esther embarked at the age of 79, on another career- acting in motion pictures and commercials (“Jet Ski Anyone?”)

Esther, a gentle and loving person, enjoyed a full life that included her grandsons Kenneth Paul and Jeffrey Curtis, Square & Circle Club, world travel, language study, tv quiz shows and mah jong.

The family wishes to thank Kam Gantan and the staff at Greenhills RCF, American Canyon, for the beautiful and thoughtful care they provided her over the past nine years.

To Esther’s multitude of friends, we thank you for being a part of her life.

Her husband, Paul T. Loo and siblings Quon, Daisy and Ruby preceded Esther in death.

Visitation will be held from 11am-12 pm at Roller Hapgood & Tinney Funeral Home, 980 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto, CA on Monday, March 15 at 11am.  Funeral will start at 12pm with interment to follow at Alta Mesa Memorial Park, 695 Arastradero Road, Palo Alto. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to: Square and Circle Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 640137, San Francisco, CA 94164.
